Tax Allocation District to Play Crucial Roll in Downtown Development

A 2007 study of the more than 60 Georgia counties and cities that have referendum-approved Tax Allocation Districts shows that for every dollar of TAD-invested funding spent on approved projects, there has been $5.80 in private investment. Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority Chairwoman Thelma Johnson may have summed up that phenomenon best: “I don’t know of any TAD in Georgia that’s ever failed.”
