Graduation Day for 44 Georgia Nonprofits Completing Momentum for the Arts

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, August 4th, 2015

This month, nonprofit leaders from Macon, Augusta, Savannah, and Albany, together with foundation leaders from across the state, will celebrate the completion of Momentum for the Arts-a competitive and transformative multi-year process designed to help them build organizational strategy and leadership that leads them to higher impact in their communities.

Developed and presented by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, Momentum for the Arts was made possible by the partnership of a dedicated group of funders, with statewide support from the Georgia Council for the Arts, regional support from the Knight Foundation and The Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area, in conjunction with the Knox and Creel-Harison Foundations, The Trustees of the Academy of Richmond County, and other local partners.

"We are excited to partner with this impressive team of foundations who share our view that well-managed and strategic nonprofits who seek to leverage their work through collaborative efforts have the power to transform communities," said Karen Beavor, president and CEO of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits.

Karen Paty, executive director at Georgia Council for the Arts, called Momentum "a unique opportunity for the Council, and the collaboration of funders that support it, to step outside our usual grantmaking model and provide organizations with a program that builds internal capacity and contributes to the sustainability of the nonprofit sector."

While the two-year Momentum for the Arts experience is coming to a close, "the impact that stronger arts organizations have on their communities will continue to grow," said Beavor, "as they establish networks of high performance nonprofits who not only support each other, but act as catalysts for collaboration."
