Dougherty County Commission Discusses Blighted Property Options

The Dougherty County Commission held an extended discussion Monday morning during its work meeting trying to determine how best to attack the problem of overgrown and blighted properties in the unincorporated portion of the county.

Chief Code Enforcement officer Robert Carter suggested the county do what’s being done in the city of Albany, which is to get court approval to cut overgrown lots and seek restitution from the courts. The biggest problem, Carter noted, is finding many of the absentee landowners whose lots are overgrown or blighted.
