Georgia Lottery Transfers $980.5M to Education
Wednesday, July 15th, 2015
The Georgia Lottery Corp. announced today that fiscal year 2015 profits transferred to the State Treasury’s Lottery for Education Account will amount to $980,500,000.
The profits exceed last year’s transfer by more than $35.4 million.
As a result, the total raised for educational programs in the state of Georgia increased to more than $16.5 billion since the lottery’s inception in 1993.
The Georgia Lottery’s fiscal year spanned from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.
“We are pleased to have raised more dollars for education than in any previous year,” said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Debbie D. Alford. “This would not have been possible without the support of our players, retailers, business partners and employees across the state.”
Draw games and instant games, including $1,250,000 Cash Bonanza, Max The Money and 21 Black Series, performed well across the board. Jumbo Bucks Lotto, the first Georgia-only lottery game that offers jackpots starting at $1 million, was introduced this year.
In addition, 67 players won prizes of $1 million or more in fiscal year 2015.
Revenue generated from Coin Operated Amusement Machines (COAM) also contributed to a record-breaking year.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
