Georgia Department of Veterans Service Reopens Satellite Locations
Wednesday, July 8th, 2015
Effective today, the Georgia Department of Veterans Service is resuming service to satellite locations around the state.
The GDVS provides service on a periodic or as-needed basis to 24 satellite locations around the state. Service to these locations, generally located within smaller communities, is in addition to that offered at the department’s 50 full-time offices.
“The service we provide in these locations enhances the overall reach of our department,” Commissioner Mike Roby said. “There are over 752,000 veterans living in our state, and although our 50 full-time Veterans Field Service Offices are located in the areas with the greatest veterans population density, there are still many veterans who are not within easy traveling distance. By providing part-time service to these satellite locations we are able to reach and assist more veterans in the communities in which they live.”
Service schedules at GDVS satellite locations vary greatly, with some sites open as often as twice a week while others are visited only monthly. The service, however, is the same and is provided by GDVS personnel from nearby full-time offices.
The current list includes Adel, Blakely, Blue Ridge, Cairo, Camilla, Clayton, Cuthbert, Dawsonville, Ellijay, Fort Stewart, Greensboro, Jesup, Lakeland, Nashville, Quitman, Statenville, Statesboro, Summerville, Thomaston, Thomson, Toccoa, Trenton, Warrenton, and Wrens.
