Discover the Depths of Planets from the Inside Out at Thronateeska
Tuesday, July 14th, 2015
Visitors will get to craft planets with a hands-on Science Saturday and then learn all about them at the second installment of the Wetherbee Astronomy Series of 2015. These events will take place Saturday, July 18, 2015, in the Science Museum, at Thronateeska Heritage Center. Science Saturday will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the Wetherbee Astronomy Series presentation begins at2:00 p.m.
Science Saturday participants will get creative as they construct their very own planets layer by layer. This event is open to children of all ages but adult supervision is required. Prior registration is recommended because space is limited and the spots go fast. Call Programs Manager, Alex La Pierre at (229) 432-6955 to register. The Wetherbee Astronomy Series begins with a fulldome showing of Oasis in Space and is followed by an in-depth presentation about planets by Staff Astronomer, Jim Friese. He will be discussing the planetary cores of Earth, Jupiter and exoplanets or planets that are outside of our solar system.
“Have you ever wondered how planets are put together or how they look inside? You’ll be able to explore those ideas at these events,” said Friese. “You’ll really get to find out what goes on under our feet.” Each installment of the Wetherbee Astronomy Series will include a fulldome show and presentation, allowing visitors to explore our universe from the comfort of the Wetherbee Planetarium.
Upcoming Wetherbee Astronomy Series segments: Saturday, September 19, 2 p.m. – “Tale of Two Stars” Saturday, November 21, 2 p.m. – “Island Universes” + a telescope purchasing workshop
Admission for each event is $3.50 plus tax per person. Thronateeska members are admitted at no charge to both events. Program content is suitable for all ages.
