ASU Nominees Advance as 2015 HBCU Awards Finalists

Albany State University has finalists in three categories for the fifth annual AARP HBCU Awards hosted July 10 by Hampton University in Hampton, Va.
ASU will vie for awards in the following categories:
“On behalf of the university, we are proud of all of our nominees selected as finalists,” said Interim President Arthur Dunning. “This speaks to the caliber of our students here at Albany State. It is also an excellent example of the effort and dedication put forth by our faculty, staff and students with regards to academics and student activities.”
Selected from 430 nominations for 27 categories, Albany State University finalists were chosen based on the nominees’ impact on university development and media coverage garnered by the university as a result of the nominees.
“This is such an honor for ASU to be recognized as a top contender in all three categories,” said Chanta Haywood, vice president of Institutional Advancement and ASU Foundation executive director. “Our students, faculty and staff members, and alumni are dedicated to continuing to tell the ASU story and be an example of the impact of HBCUs around the nation,”
Finalists are selected by a committee of former award winners, journalists, current and former HBCU presidents, and HBCU students, faculty and alumni. The awards ceremony is in conjunction with the AARP National HBCU Media Week and National HBCU Media Summit is scheduled for July 9 – 11 on Hampton’s campus.
