Thronateeska Awarded Local History Achievement Award
Tuesday, June 30th, 2015
On June 23, 2015 the Georgia Historical Society presented the Roger K. Warlick Local History Achievement Award in Archival Excellence to Thronateeska Heritage Foundation, Inc. for the South Georgia Archives Project. The Archives Project was born out of the need to improve Thronateeska’s capabilities for properly processing and storing artifacts and documents of historical significance to South Georgia. As a result the Thronateeska Heritage Foundation, Inc. was able to construct and complete the South Georgia Archives facility and scan, store, and make available permanent records to the public.
“We are very honored to receive this award and to be recognized by the state’s oldest historical organization,” said Tommy Gregors, Executive Director of Thronateeska. “It’s a great way to recognize the hard work and efforts of the staff and Board to ensure that Albany’s and South Georgia’s history is preserved.” The Warlick awards, named in honor of former Georgia Historical Society President Roger K. Warlick, are given each year by the Georgia Historical Society and serve to honor those affiliate chapters whose original projects or ideas utilize historical resources in new and interesting ways and make local history relevant and meaningful to the community, allowing audiences to make the important connections between the past and the present. “We are pleased to award the Thronateeska Heritage Foundation, Inc. with the Roger K. Warlick Local History Achievement Award,” said W. Todd Groce, President and CEO of the Georgia Historical Society. “Because of their efforts future generations will be able to access the records that are vital to recording our states history.”
