The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that it will open a satellite office in Cordele.  

The GDOL’s Cordele Career Center was closed on June 12 and has been merged with the GDOL’s Americus Career Center. The regional center will serve Crisp, Dooly, Macon, Marion, Schley, Sumter, Taylor and Webster counties.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler met recently with local leaders in Cordele, who had contacted him to discuss the possibility of establishing a satellite office. 

Butler met recently with State Rep. Buddy Harden, Johnny Floyd, a member of the Georgia Department of Transportation Board and former state representative, Edward Beach, Cordele city manager, and Steve Fulford, Cordele city engineer. State Sen. Greg Kirk was unable to attend the meeting, but talked with Butler by telephone.

“After discussing their concerns, I agreed to open a satellite office to provide some employment services to local residents who are unable to travel to Americus,” said Butler.  “These local leaders get all of the credit for our decision.”

A location for the satellite office has not been determined. Details must still be arranged about the hours of operation and level of service that can be provided. 

Most GDOL services are available online at www.gdol.ga.gov. Almost all claims for unemployment insurance are filed online. The GDOL is continuously improving and expanding its online services.
