Dougherty County Officials Asked to Reconsider Raise for Chief Tax Appraiser

Bill Ashberry, the chairman of the Dougherty County Tax Assessors Board, made an impassioned pitch to the Dougherty County Commission Monday morning asking that Chief Appraiser Larry Thomas have his salary increased to at least $78,000 from its current $66,000.
Ashberry, who said he has made several similar requests on behalf of Thomas, who was initially hired in 1980, warned commissioners that they would not be able to bring in a new chief appraiser — a position required by state law — at the same salary if Thomas decides to leave.
