Base officials here were recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration on Tuesday for superior excellence in health and worker
safety and awarded the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Status;
designating the base as a Star site within the Department of Defense. 

The Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. John M. Paxton Jr.,
attended at the special ceremony.  

The Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps is the second highest ranking
officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and serves as the second-in-command for the
Commandant of the Marine Corps.

The ceremony, formally recognizing the base for the highest and most
challenging participation category in OSHA's achievement program, serves to
recognize MCLB Albany as only the second installation Corps-wide to achieve
the VPP award and associated status.
