Darton Graduate Ready to Take Off for His Next Adventure

Sophomore Jonathan Colley, of Thomaston, was not quite sure where he wanted to go to college after he graduated from Upson-Lee High School. One thing he did know is that he wanted to attend a college that was far away enough from home to live in a dorm but yet close enough to visit home easily, and of course, affordable. That decision became much easier for Colley and his family after finding out he was a recipient of a full scholarship to Darton State College, and since then he has never looked back on deciding to become a Darton State Cavalier.
In high school, Colley was very involved, participating in NJROTC and diving. His enthusiasm to be involved continued in college. He is a member of the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa, the outdoor club, and worked on campus for the Outdoor Education and Recreation Department all while maintaining a perfect GPA.
Recently, Colley received the Outstanding Scholars Award for Mathematics and Science and was named Darton State College’s 2015 Academic Recognition Student, an honor that is given each year to a student at each college in the University System of Georgia.
Colley attributes much of his success at Darton to Josh Fulmer, coordinator of Outdoor Education and Recreation. “Through his programs and trips, he has opened me up. His infectious attitude and outlook as helped me to overcome the many challenges that go along with going off to college.”
On May 7, Colley will graduate from Darton State College with an associate of science degree. In the fall, he hopes to enter the aerospace engineering program at the Georgia Institute of Technology to pursue a career in aviation and follow in his dad and brother’s footsteps.
