Three Albany State University students and a professor were selected to present research at the Teaching Matters Conference held March 27-28 at Gordon State College in Barnesville, Ga.

 The theme for the annual interdisciplinary conference was “Celebrating Creativity in the Classroom,” and their presentations focused on innovative and creative pedagogical methods, approaches, and theories.

The presenters included professors from colleges and universities in Georgia and Florida, Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., and Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan.  Among the 57 professors selected to present their research, the undergraduate students from Albany State University were the only student presenters. 

The students, Ta’Kia Wallace, a senior visual arts major; Kezia Green, a junior music education major; and Stephanie Dixon, a juniorspeech and theatre major along with Florence Lyons, Ph.D., interim chair for the Albany State University Fine Arts Department presented a panel presentation entitled, “Teaching Strategies that Motivate Students in Speech, Theatre, Music, and Visual Arts.” 

“I am so proud that our students were selected to present their research at a conference where the majority of the presenters were university professors. They worked very hard on their research, and the students are thrilled that they were asked to present their findings at the conference,” said Lyons.  The Teaching Matters Conference has been in existence for thirteen years.
