Thanks to a generous gift from the Darsey Family Foundation, the Flint RiverQuarium will soon be installing a new interactive touch tank in its lobby. The 150-gallon tank will host species found in the Apalachicola region of the Gulf of Mexico, making the connection between the Flint and its impact on the health of the Gulf.

“Interacting this closely with hermit crabs, starfish, sea urchins, anemones, and other creatures of tide pool habitats will engage and connect RiverQuarium guests, helping them to make the connection between human actions in Albany and the Flint River basin to the consequences of those actions on the Gulf coast,” said Tommy Gregors, Flint RiverQuarium Chief Operating Officer.

The Darsey Family Foundation has a history of supporting environmental and conservation issues.

“We are deeply grateful for the gift from the Darsey Family Foundation that makes this new exhibit possible,” Gregors said. “It will be a great addition in helping us to promote our mission: to promote the education and appreciation of water and its value.”

The Flint RiverQuarium is southwest Georgia’s premier aquarium, featuring more than 1,000 animals that call the Flint River watershed home.  The Flint RiverQuarium is located at 101 Pine Avenue in downtown Albany, Georgia. Regular operating hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m, Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
