W.T. Henry, who retired in 2009 as headmaster of Albany’s Deerfield-Windsor School after serving 45 years in public and private education, was sworn in today to the state Board of Education.

Gov. Nathan Deal conducted the swearing-in ceremony at the state capitol in Atlanta, where Henry was accompanied by family members.

A Colquitt, Ga., native, Henry has served on the Georgia Accrediting Commission since 1997 and is a former Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Board of Trustees member.

He replaces Elizabeth Ragsdale, who stepped down in 2014 as the board’s representative from the Second Congressional District.

Henry earned a bachelor’s degree from Troy State University and master’s degrees in Physical Education and Administration Supervision from Florida State University. He and his wife, Ruth, have three children and three grandchildren. They reside in Albany.
