Albany Seeking More Use of Civic Center

One-point-two million dollars. A staggering number, one that demands attention.
Sparked by a consultant’s suggestion that the venerable Albany Civic Center be torn down as part of a plan to spark development of downtown Albany, interim City Manager Tom Berry told a gathering a couple of months back that operation of the Civic Center costs the city $1.2 million annually. With a rallying cry of “return on investment,” some have used Berry’s figure and the consultant’s suggestion to call for demolition of the venue that once was the state’s second-largest concert destination.
