ASU Welcomes International Professors to the College of Business

Albany State University College of Business representatives welcomed visiting professors from the Republic of Colombia Tuesday, Nov. 18 for a two day visit to discuss study abroad and research opportunities for ASU faculty, staff and students. During their stay, Colombian Professors Erika Y. Guisao and Juan C. Lopez will teach supply chain and logistics courses, and ASU faculty will also have a chance to explore foreign exchange opportunities to Colombia.
“This is a new day for the College of Business,” said Dr. Michael Rogers, ASU interim Dean of the ASU College of Business. “We are very proud to have Dr. Juan Jaramillo who is from Colombia set this up with a major university in Colombia.”
On Wednesday, Nov.19, the College of Business will host a Town Hall Meeting in Peace Hall Room 225 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The theme for this meeting is “Coffee & Dessert” which features Colombian coffee and American cookies. The meeting will cover the topic of “Developing International Opportunities.”
“We are very excited to have two professors visit from top institutions in (Colombia),” said ASU College of Business Professor, Dr. Juan Jaramillo. “The professors will be sharing with us project opportunities and various academic approaches to logistics. We will team up on new assignments for both institutions and they will teach some of our classes during their visit.”
Guisao has a Master of Science in Engineering Administration from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Medellín and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá. Currently, Guisao is the director of the Center of Economics and Accounting Research at the Universidad de Medellín. She teaches Logistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and is one of the authors of the book “Integral Logistics.”
Lopez has a Master of Science in Supply Chain and Logistics Management from University of Barcelona in Spain. His bachelor’s degree is in economics from Universidad de Medellín. Currently, Lopez is the coordinator of the Program of International Business and specializes in Logistics at the Technological Institute of Antioquia in Colombia. He teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Logistics. Lopez is also a consultant for the city of Medellín in development and investment attracting to the city of Medellín.
“Students will gain a sense of internationalism and, in time, we are looking for students to participate in an exchange program. We are making the logistics program truly an international program,” added Jaramillo.
