Albany State University is set to launch a new interactive website that features compatibility with all mobile devices, compelling photography, timely news and departmental updates. The soft-opening of the site was September 29 with the official debut set for October 1. 

“We’re excited about providing our stakeholders with a tool that opens a new window through which the world will learn about Albany State’s legacy, progress and transformation. It is a blend of the old and new that visitors will find appealing and informative,” said ASU interim Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Dr. Chanta M. Haywood.

The site showcases videos, graphics and photos of historic structures on campus.  It features the modern “Soil to Sun” sculpture, designed by ASU Professor Emeritus Arthur Berry, on the upper campus, and the blue and gold flags of the new Student Center.  The stately columns of the L. Orene Hall Building and the chimney from Caroline Hall, both vestiges from the 1994 flood, also provide a nostalgic backdrop for the site.

A focus group comprised of ASU students, faculty, staff, alumni, community residents and external consultants offered input throughout the production process.

“It’s more modern, up-to-date and crisp with vibrant colors,” said junior sociology major Maygean Smith, who provided feedback to web designers. “It evokes a happy feeling and is easy to navigate. Current and prospective students will be excited about seeing what Albany State has to offer,” Smith added.

“ASU’s content managers were committed to completing the process from start to finish,” said Rita Hardy, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement. “It was a labor of love that has produced an impressive site,” said Hardy, the project’s manager. An important feature of the website allows content providers to update pages consistently.

ASU interim President, Dr. Arthur Dunning is excited about the new gateway into ASU. “In this day and age, the first place people go when they want information about your school is to the website,” said Dunning. “This new site makes an outstanding first impression about Albany State as a premiere institution of higher learning.”
