Keynote speaker, the Honorable Judge Glenda Hatchett headlines the University System of Georgia Staff Council 2014 Annual Conference at Albany State University on October 1 - 2. She will address the conference at 10:50 a.m. Registration begins at 10 a.m. in the Student Center Ballroom located on the campus. The theme of the USG Staff Council Annual Conference is STARS (Staff Trained and Ready to Serve): Catalyst for Change. 

Hatchett was appointed Fulton County’s Chief Presiding Judge in 1990, becoming the first African American in the state to hold the position and lead one of the largest juvenile court systems in the country.

Hatchett presided over the two-time Emmy nominated nationally syndicated show, “Judge Hatchett” for 13 seasons and won a Prism Award for Best Unscripted Non-Fiction Series or Special for Television. The acclaimed judge is also the author of two national best sellers, Dare to Take Charge and Say What You Mean, Mean What You Say.

Currently, Hatchett sits on the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons’ Board of Advisors, a position she has held since 2004, and serves as a consultant to the National Basketball Association on pressing legal and social issues. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., and a law degree from Emory University School of Law.

ASU Coordinator of Athletic Academic Support Services Geraldine Winns, president of the 2014 USG Staff Council will host the event. “I am elated that all my colleagues from across the state are coming to the beautiful campus of Albany State University,” said Winns.  “I have traveled across the state to different institutions as the 2014 president and am honored to host this wonderful 20^th anniversary of the staff council,” Winns added.

Marion Fedrick, the vice chancellor for human resources at the University System of Georgia is also a special guest. 

The agenda includes a business meeting and customer service workshops. Concurrent sessions begin at 1:05 p.m.         

A reception and dinner concludes Wednesday’s events with special presentations at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.

On Thursday, Oct. 2 the conference continues with an overview of the USG’s tobacco and smoke-free campus policy. The conference ends atnoon.
