“There’s Only One Albany” Campaign is Looking for Community Heroes

Today the “There’s Only One Albany” campaign launched its “Community Heroes” program to honor individuals and organizations within the Albany community who are working to make the city an even more special place to live.  The campaign is looking for submissions from the Albany community to help identify “Community Heroes” in seven categories: “Molding Minds” (Education); “Preserving Progress” (Community Service); “Strengthening Wellness” (Health Care); “Young Trailblazer” (Youth - 18 and under); “Exciting Imagination” (Arts); “Protecting Prosperity” (Local Business); and “Serving a Purpose” (Non-Profit Organization). Submissions can only be made online at OnlyOneAlbany.comand will be accepted until September 21.

The following information must be included in the submission:

  • Name and contact information of the person submitting the nomination.

  • Category for which the person is being nominated.

  • A letter of recommendation for the person/organization being nominated, which must include:

    • 1 - 2 page letter explaining why the person/organization is a Community Hero in the selected category

    • Contact information for the nominee, including the name, address, e-mail, phone number and website URL (if applicable).

  • A photo/picture of the nominee.

Once the submission period is complete, a fair and impartial team will review all of the submissions and identify three finalists per category.  On October 1, the finalists for each category will be posted on the OnlyOneAlbany.com “Community Heroes” Web page to begin online voting through October 15. Winners for each category will be announced at a special community event in November.
