Darton State College announced today that it has received $10,000 in funding support from the University System of Georgia’s African-American Male Initiative (AAMI) Project for FY 2015. Darton matched the grant award with an additional $10,000 and all of the funding will be used to address retention, persistence, and completion barriers among African-American male students attending the College.
Darton State College’s AAMI Project will provide targeted interventions that will include but are not limited to early alert academic monitoring, peer and community mentoring, tutoring services, and special orientations and workshops.
“We are honored to receive this grant from the University System of Georgia and partner with the 100 Black Men of Albany, GA, to further the College’s retention, persistence, and completion goals,” said Wendy Wilson, interim special assistant to the President for Diversity and Special Initiatives and AAMI project director.
