Cancer STOMP Enters Second Year, Adds Three More South Georgia Counties

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Monday, August 4th, 2014

The Cancer Coalition of South Georgia launched its second annual Cancer STOMP team fundraising campaign on August 1. This year, the campaign will be held in four locations in the Coalition’s 32-county service region.  Businesses, families, schools, civic groups, religious groups and clubs are encouraged to form teams and get creative to raise funds for the Cancer Coalition’s service, education, research and outreach initiatives throughout our area. “We want people to know that there is a local organization that is fighting cancer right here in our communities,” said Coalition Development Manager Melissa Goodin. “With the Cancer Coalition, you can be assured that 100% of your support will stay in South Georgia to help local people.”

The Cancer STOMP fundraising campaign will wrap up with Walk & Carnival celebration events in each of the participating communities. Each event begins with a 1-mile reflective walk to honor survivors and remember those lost to cancer. Honorariums are available for each walk. Carnival activities will begin after the walk, and teams can host a carnival booth, provide a fun activity, walk and/or provide entertainment. Visit www.cancerSTOMP.com for information about the Cancer STOMP nearest you.

STOMP’s campaign Walk & Carnival events are:

Terrell County: Saturday, October 4. 9am-12pm. Terrell County Recreation Fields

Dougherty-Lee Counties: Saturday, October 18. 9am-1pm. The Grounds at Phoebe Meredyth Place/The Veranda

Crisp County: Saturday, November 8. 9am-12pm. Georgia Veterans State Park

Tift County: Saturday, November 8. 9am-1pm. YMCA Soccer Fields

The 1-mile walk will begin at 9am at each event. Individual walkers and teams are encouraged to register online at www.cancerSTOMP.com.

Sponsorships are still available for each event, and teams are needed to raise funds and also participate in the walk and celebration events. Local businesses are supporting Cancer STOMP in various ways. “We have car dealerships donating a portion of their sales, restaurants contributing a portion of a designated day’s sales and other retail businesses asking for donations to post STOMP prints and collecting change,” said Goodin. Cancer Coalition CEO Diane Fletcher said, “We are excited to continue building relationships in the 32 counties that we serve. Cancer STOMP is a fantastic way to bring these communities together around a common goal – the local fight against cancer. We encourage everyone to get involved!”
