Every year, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital sets aside a day to welcome the new residents physicians to the Southwest Georgia Family Medicine Residency Program. This year Rep. Jay Powell will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony scheduled for Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Wetherbee Lobby of the hospital's main campus. 

The goal of the residency program is to train family physicians to practice throughout Southwest Georgia.  This ACGME-accredited graduate medical educational program was developed in direct response to physician shortages in the region and offers an opportunity for physicians to develop as strong clinicians capable of delivering high-quality primary care in any setting.  During the ceremony, the residents will receive the traditional white lab coat and pager and will be introduced to the community.

The Class of 2017 includes Danielle Andrews, MD; Sarah Codrea, DO; Justin Lancaster, MD; John Macon, MD; and Jennifer Yam, MD. The residents train with the Southwest Georgia Family Medicine for three years to become eligible for board certification in family medicine.  While in the residency program, all resident physicians will work in multiple clinical areas at the hospital and around Albany.
