The “Unsinkable” Albany State University is a finalist in four categories for awards to be presented at the 2014 HBCU Media Summit this summer in New Orleans. The university is a contender in the following areas:

• Best Alumni Publication - Aspire Magazine
• Best Fine Arts Program – ASU’s Depart of Fine Arts
• Female Alumnus of the Year - Dorothy Hubbard, mayor City of Albany
• Male Student of the Year - Kelcey Wright, senior, middle grades education major 

The winners will be announced at the 3 day conference that begins July 10 during HBCU Media Week. The awards ceremony celebrates the achievements of historically black colleges and universities throughout the country and is the first and only event to recognize the influence and impact of HBCUs on American culture.   

ASU’s Department of University Communications submitted nominations to HBCU Digest on behalf of campus divisions and organizations who garnered positive media attention throughout the 2013-2014 school year.

Winners will be announced on July12 at Dillard University in the Crescent City. 

Last year, ASU received the award for “Best Student Government Association” under the administration of former SGA President Clarence Washington.
