One of Procter and Gamble’s Albany plant alumni has returned to the facility as the plant’s new manager.

Werhner Washington, who began his career with Procter and Gamble in 1984, came back to Southwest Georgia earlier this month to assume the role of plant manager. He succeeds Fidel Torres, who had served in the role for the past several years.

Washington, who boasts 30 years of service with P&G, including 20 in manufacturing and the last 10 in Corporate Human Resources, said he is excited to be returning to Albany, where he spent 11 years with the company.

“I feel blessed to have the opportunity to partner with the fantastic employees of the Albany Plant to touch and improve the lives of our Family Care consumers,” Washington said.

Washington was born in Fairhope, Ala., and graduated from Tuskegee University with a B.S. in chemical engineering. He worked in Albany from 1984 to 1995 before transferring to Mehoopany, Pa., where he served as that plant’s operations manager for Tissue/Towel Converting.

Washington then transferred to the company’s Hunt Valley, Md., location, where he served as Plant Human Resources manager and then associate director of of Human Resources-North America Cosmetics.

Before returning to Albany, Washington served as associate director Human Resources-Product Supply, Global Hair and Beauty Sector in Cincinnati, Ohio.

To officially welcome Washington to the community and to honor Torres for his service, P&G officials will be hosting a small reception later this month.

Washington assumed the role of plant manager on May 1.
