ASU College of Business Supports Local Business One Scoop at a Time

Staff Report From Albany CEO

Thursday, December 5th, 2013

Faculty, staff and students in Albany State University’s College of Business are steering more business to a local restaurant. The group will stage a cash mob, Friday, Dec. 6 from 12- 2 p.m. at Cool Scoops in downtown Albany. Members of the Marketing Club and Enactus, another student organization, goal is to increase the company’s cash flowby purchasing its products and encouraging the campus family and community residents to frequent other local businesses.

“Cash mobs are a win-win. Our students will get to apply some of the management and marketing skills they are learning, and a small local business, Cool Scoops, will get a major financial stimulus,” said Maurice Elliard, professor of marketing in the ASU College of Business. “We are hopeful that many of the participants will become loyal customers.”

This is the second cash mob that ASU business students have initiated. The first attracted 140 customers to Our Daily Bread, a downtown restaurant earlier this year.

“The cash mob we had in February exceeded our expectations,” said Elliard. “Many of the students who were involved expressed a desire to have a second.”

The goal of Friday’s cash mob is to get at least 125 people to each spend between $5 and $10.

The restaurant offers an assortment of ice cream flavors and Italian Ice. Patrons can also get hotdogs, nachos, candy apples and pretzels. The public is invited to participate in the cash mob. Cool Scoops is located at 106 Pine Avenue.
