Health disparities in Southwest Georgia top the agenda when experts gather for a panel discussion Wednesday, April 24 at 2:30 p.m. and noon on Thursday, April 25 in ACAD 172 on Albany State University’s campus. ASU's health disparities research community organized the forum after a semester-long workshop series on the various aspects of research and grant writing in the field of health disparities.

“The purpose of the community is to encourage research collaborations between ASU faculty members and health experts in Southwest Georgia, which will hopefully contribute to the creation of a health disparities research center at ASU," said Dr. Judith Rosenbaum, facilitator of the health disparities research community.

The upcoming forum will feature speakers on the following topics: Southwest Georgia’s overall community health, cancer research at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, teenage pregnancy and parenting, and women’s health in the Albany area.

Representatives from different organizations will present information about their work in reducing health disparities. The research community is a collaborative effort to bring researchers and local health experts together to explore the topic.
