Friday, March 22nd, 2013
According to Forbes, college costs have been rising roughly at a rate of 7% per year for decades. In an effort to assist with these costs, HeritageBank of the South is offering scholarship opportunities for students living within the Bank’s service areas.
According to HeritageBank of the South Marketing Director, Mary Beth Hobby, “Knowledge is powerful. A college degree can open doors to new opportunities and career advancements. It’s no secret college graduates are more likely to make more money and own a home. I have found they are more likely to be actively involved in their communities, as well.”
In all, six (6) $500 scholarships will be awarded; one per region as described below and one to a dependent of a HeritageBank employee.
CENTRAL & SOUTHWEST GA: Bibb, Dougherty, Worth, Lee and surrounding counties
SOUTHERN: GA- Lowndes, Cook and surrounding counties
FL- Columbia, Marion and surrounding counties
EAST GA: Bulloch, Effingham, Chatham and surrounding counties
SOUTHEAST GA: Tattnall, Appling, Jeff Davis and surrounding counties
ALABAMA & WEST GA: Troup, Lee, Shelby, Talladega, Chambers, St. Clair and surrounding counties
“At HeritageBank of the South, community involvement isn’t something we say. It’s something we do. Community service is required of every employee and is a large part of this scholarship, too. Applicants must demonstrate a high degree of commitment to their community, as well as, their education,” says Hobby. Students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA, and will be asked to describe their participation in the community. Also included in the application, students must write an original essay on their hometown and why it’s a great place to call home.
All applications are due to the HeritageBank Marketing Department, located at 721 North Westover Boulevard, Albany, GA 31707, by close of business Friday, May 10th, 2013. Applications and additional details are available on the Bank’s website at www.eheritagebank.com.
