Albany Metro Leads the State in Charitable Giving

In the latest report by the Chronicle of Philanthropy shows that Georgia ranks 8th in charitable giving, and Metro Albany gives more as a percentage of income than any metro area in the state. The median contribution in 2011 was $4,274 which was higher than the state average of $3,396

According to the report, the metro Albany area gave $67 million in 2011, with that being 8.4% of discretionary income, tops in the state. They also gave giving percentages for multiple levels of income giving:

  • $50,000-$90,000: 10.6% of discretionary income
  • $1000,000-$199,000: 6.9% of discretionary income
  • $200,000+: 5.6% of discretionary income
