SunTrust Banks, Inc. and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce today announced SunTrust's partnership and $100,000 investment in the Chamber's Hiring Our Heroes program. The nationwide initiative helps veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment by working with its network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
Since the program's launch in March 2011, Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 330 hiring fairs across the country, resulting in more than 14,100 veterans and military spouses securing employment.
"Military men and women provide a diverse pool of talent and their training and mission focus are among the skills we value throughout our organization," said William H. Rogers, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of SunTrust. "It is with great respect on this special day honoring our veterans that we announce our participation in this exceptional program which helps service members and their families achieve financial well-being by assisting them in finding employment with SunTrust or other employers."
SunTrust's investment in the program will help fund 10 hiring fairs throughout its service area in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. A representative from the Bank will also serve on the Chamber's Veterans Employment Advisory Council.
"We are excited that Sun Trust is stepping up as a leader in the financial industry to hire veterans — not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it's right for their business," said Kevin Schmiegel, executive director of Hiring Our Heroes. "SunTrust's commitment to addressing veteran and military spouse unemployment across America sets an example for other companies to emulate, and we welcome their representation on the Hiring Our Heroes National Veterans Employment Advisory Council."
