State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said today that Judith H. Carr, of Peachtree City, has been named the new chair of Georgia’s State Employer Committee. Also, she has received the Earl Everett Distinguished Service Award for workplace safety.

Carr’s selection as state chair and the award presentation came during the recent Georgia Employer Committee’s statewide conference, held jointly with the 19th annual Georgia Safety, Health, and Environmental Conference in Savannah.

“Judith Carr will do an outstanding job as chair of our state employer committee,” said Commissioner Butler. “I look forward to working with her to ensure that we continue to have a close working relationship with our employers, so that together we can help strengthen Georgia’s economy, grow jobs, and put more Georgians back to work.”

Carr is the vice-president of human resources for Entrust, Inc., of Newnan, a trust, fiduciary, and custody activities company.

Employer committees are groups of business representatives who maintain a working relationship between employers and the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL). The committees provide input and guidance to the commissioner and department in the development of policy and legislation, as it impacts employers and employees. The committees throughout the state work closely with their local GDOL career centers to promote the department’s services among employers and to identify and recommend ways to meet local and state employment-related needs.

Butler presented Carr with the distinguished service award given annually in memory of the late Earl Everett, the first director of the GDOL’s Safety Engineering Division, which is now attached to the state Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner. The award is presented to the person who shows exceptional leadership, commitment, and involvement in various organizations whose objectives are to enhance safe, healthy, and well-trained workforces throughout Georgia.
