In other states, Michigan ranks as the most expensive auto insurance market with the median annual premium is $4,490, or 8% of the median household income. Rounding out with the lowest was Massachusetts, with median annual premiums of annual income costing $1,128, or 1.42 percent. North Carolina is the cheapest based on median annual premiums, at $860.
