Georgia still leads the way with the most bank failures in the U.S. since the banking crisis began in 2008. That number eclipsed 80 this month when Security Exchange Bank in Marietta was closed by the FDIC. That now reprents almost 25% of bank closures since 2008, according to data by the FDIC.
Across the nation in the first half of 2012, there were 31 banks closed by regulators nationwide since January 1st. Compared to 2011 when there were 92, 2010 saw 157 banks close, and 140 closed in the first half of 2009.
