Carol Fullerton will officially announce today that she will seek re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives. The announcement will take place at the Bridge House on Front Street at 10:00 a.m. Carol is a two-term veteran representing the newly expanded House District #153, all in Dougherty County. The new district includes the majority of her former District #151, plus new territory to the east and west, including the Marine Corp Logistics Base and the Doublegate and St. Andrews neighborhoods.

A Democrat, Carol has worked effectively with state leadership, our local delegation and members of the Georgia State House and Senate to secure positive outcomes for Albany and Dougherty County. During this last term, she served on five committees: Health & Human Services; Higher Education; Natural Resources & Environment; Economic Development & Tourism; and Utilities, Telecommunications & Energy.

Education and health care have been priorities for Fullerton. Albany State University, Albany Technical College and Darton College all have new student centers, along with a mixture of new dormitories, classroom facilities, training laboratories and renovations. ASU’s nursing program has been re-certified, and the Board of Regents has awarded Darton a new bachelors program in nursing that will increase the number and skills of nursing graduates for southwest Georgia. ASU has received state funds for planning its new Ray Charles Fine Arts Classroom and Performance Center.

Additionally, plans for the Broad Avenue Bridge have progressed and a list of projects for the T-SPLOST referendum have been proposed for voter consideration in the July 31st primary. Among these are the widening of Highway 133 from Albany to Valdosta and the construction of a flood-proof Clark Avenue Bridge. .
