More Georgia Employers Plan Hiring

Employers in Georgia expect to hire at a strong pace during the second quarter of 2012, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.
From April to June, 18% of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while 6% expect to reduce their payrolls. Another 72% expect to maintain their current staff levels and 4% are not certain of their hiring plans. This yields a Net Employment Outlook* of 12%.
“Employers’ hiring expectations for Quarter 2 2012 are stronger compared to Quarter 1 2012 when the Net Employment Outlook was 8%,” said Manpower spokesperson Michael Doyle. “Compared to one year ago when the Net Employment Outlook was 10%, employers are slightly more optimistic about their staffing plans.”

*The Net Employment Outlook is derived by taking the percentage of employers anticipating an increase in hiring activity and subtracting from this the percentage of employers expecting a decrease in hiring activity.
For the coming quarter, job prospects appear best in Non-Durable Goods Manufacturing, Transportation & Utilities, Wholesale & Retail Trade, Information, Financial Activities, Professional & Business Services, Education & Health Services, Leisure & Hospitality, Other Services and Government. Employers in Construction plan to reduce staffing levels, while hiring in Durable Goods Manufacturing is expected to remain unchanged.
Manpower Employment Outlook Survey Results for the United States
Of the more than 18,000 employers surveyed in the United States, 18 percent expect to add to their workforces, and 6 percent expect a decline in their payrolls during Quarter 2 2012. Seventy-two percent of employers anticipate making no change to staff levels, and the remaining four percent of employers are undecided about their hiring plans. When seasonal variations are removed from the data, the Net Employment Outlook is +10%, similar to the Quarter 1 2012 Net Employment Outlook of +9%.
