Amazon Raises Minimum Wage to $15 for All U.S. Employees

Amazon announced it is increasing its minimum wage to $15 for all full-time, part-time, temporary - including those hired by agencies, and seasonal employees across the U.S.—effective November 1st. The new Amazon $15 minimum wage will benefit more than 250,000 Amazon employees, as well as over 100,000 seasonal employees who will be hired at Amazon sites across the country this holiday.

Federal Transit Administration Awards Albany $4.25M in Competitive Transit Funding

Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) announced that the Federal Transit Administration has awarded the City of Albany $4.25 million in competitive grant funding through the agency’s Bus & Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program. This grant award will fund six new buses and help support the construction of the new Albany Transit Center.

Albany Grows Jobs in August

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Albany added jobs and drove down its unemployment rate in August. At the same time, the five-county metropolitan statistical area saw its monthly unemployment claims shrink. All indicators still remain positive for the year.

Former Commander of NSA Georgia to Lead Georgia Cyber Center

Col. Eric Toler, former commander of NSA Georgia, has been named executive director of the Georgia Cyber Center. He will begin his new position on Oct. 1st. In his new role, Col. Toler will work with Augusta University, Augusta Technical College and Georgia Technology Authority executive stakeholders to define and execute the overall strategy, vision, mission and goals for the center’s programs and partnerships.

DCSS Graduation Rates Top State Average for Third Straight Year

The district-wide graduation rate for the Dougherty County School System bested the state average for the third straight year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Georgia's Graduation Rate Rises to All-Time High
September 20, 2018
Georgia’s high school graduation rate increased again in 2018, rising to 81.6 percent from 80.6 percent in 2017. This is an all-time high for Georgia’s graduation rate since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation now required by federal law. Seventy-four Georgia school districts recorded 2018 graduation rates at or above 90 percent.
