The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted its 116th Annual Meeting Thursday evening in front of the St. Nicholas Hotel, welcoming an impressive 500+ attendees, making it the largest event in the Chamber’s history. Set against the backdrop of one of Albany’s revitalized
A highlight of the evening was the ceremonial passing of the gavel, marking the transition of leadership from 2025 Chair Smith Wilson to incoming 2026 Chair Adam Hutchins. The moment symbolized both gratitude for a year of impactful leadership and excitement for the road ahead.
In his remarks, Hutchins shared appreciation for Wilson’s service and reflected on the strength of the Chamber’s network:
“I want to thank Smith for her leadership this past year our Chamber and community are better because of her, and I look forward to continuing to grow the Chamber’s impact in 2026. I also want to thank all our members and stakeholders who attended our annual dinner. Your support and engagement are what make this organization strong, and I’m excited for what we will accomplish together in the year ahead.”
Building on this transition, Hutchins emphasized a continued focus on growth, connection, and advancing opportunities for Albany’s business community. The leadership change underscores the Chamber’s commitment to momentum, collaboration, and delivering meaningful impact across the region.
The Chamber also honored several distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions to the community:
- Ambassador of the Year Award: Nancy Reimer
- Lifetime Service Award (2026): Mrs. Rutha Harris
- AU40 Young Professional of the Year: Dr. Darren Evans, Phoebe Putney Health System
Throughout the evening, attendees were reminded of the power of collaboration and shared vision. In remarks delivered during the program, Interim President & CEO Matt Reed emphasized the importance of proactive leadership and community partnership:
“The question before us is not whether Albany will change; it no doubt will continue. The question is whether we will help lead that change or watch it happen around us.
I believe our community is ready—ready to think bigger, act bolder, and work harder together. My commitment to you tonight is that your chamber will be a catalyst for that future: as a welcoming connector of people, a builder of opportunity, and a steward of progress.
The future of the chamber is not separate from the future of Albany. They are one and the same. And it is up to us to lead them both forward.”
The 116th Annual Meeting served not only as a celebration of accomplishments, but as a call to action reinforcing the Chamber’s mission to drive economic growth and foster a thriving, connected community.
Together, we build what’s next
