Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany is proud to announce that Baseball Hall of Famer and Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame inductee Fred “Crime Dog” McGriff will serve as the featured speaker for the 38th Annual Steak & Burger Dinner.

McGriff, a 2023 inductee into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, enjoyed a remarkable 19-year Major League Baseball career, becoming one of the most consistent power hitters of his era. A five-time All-Star, he hit 493 career home runs and recorded 1,550 RBIs, while helping lead the Atlanta Braves to a World Series championship in 1995. Known for his durability and excellence, McGriff hit 20 or more home runs in 15 seasons and was the first player to hit 30 home runs with five different teams.

He credits his time at the Boys & Girls Club in Tampa, Florida as instrumental in shaping his path to success. His journey from Club kid to Major League Baseball legend exemplifies the life-changing impact of Boys & Girls Clubs. In 2024, he was further honored with induction into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame, recognizing his achievements and continued commitment to inspiring youth.

The Steak & Burger Dinner remains one of Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany’s signature events, bringing together community leaders and Club members for a meaningful evening centered on mentorship and connection. During the event, youth members host local leaders over a shared meal symbolizing the power of relationships and opportunity.

“For nearly four decades, our Steak & Burger Dinner has connected our community with the young people we serve in a powerful and personal way,” said Jacqueline Robinson, Chief Executive Officer. “Fred McGriff’s story is a testament to the impact of Boys & Girls Clubs, and we are honored to welcome him to Albany to inspire both our youth and our community partners.”
