Albany State University (ASU) contributed $282,164,316 to the Georgia economy in Fiscal Year 2024, supporting 2,666 jobs across the region, according to a new University System of Georgia (USG) report. This represents a 6% increase over ASU’s 2023 economic impact.

“These numbers highlight Albany State University’s dual role as a powerful economic engine for Southwest Georgia and as a driver of individual prosperity for our graduates,” said ASU President, Dr. Robert Scott. “Our students don’t just leave with a diploma — they leave with a lifetime of increased opportunity, economic mobility, and the ability to contribute back to their communities and their families for generations to come.”

The study, conducted by the Selig Center for Economic Growth at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, measures direct spending by the university, combined with the impact of its students, faculty, staff, and related industries. Employment impact includes both on-campus jobs and off-campus jobs sustained by ASU-related spending in Dougherty, Lee, Worth, Mitchell, Terrell, Sumter, Tift, and Crisp counties.

Per the USG, across Georgia, the USG powered $23.1 billion into the state’s economy in FY 2024 — a 5.4% increase from the previous year. In addition, recent USG graduates stand to earn an average of $1.4 million more over their lifetimes compared to those without a college degree.

A separate study assessed the long-term economic benefit of degrees earned by the 1,410 graduates of Albany State University in 2024. Using synthetic work-life earnings estimates, the study found a total projected lifetime earnings of 2024 graduates of $4,173,428,533. The portion of lifetime earnings directly attributable to degree attainment is $1,364,310,943.

By degree level:

  • Master’s Degrees – 171 graduates; $653,575,498 total earnings; $417,006,094 due to degree

  • Bachelor’s Degrees – 680 graduates; $2,223,554,238 total earnings; $988,709,858 due to degree
