Albany State University (ASU) President Dr. Robert Scott has released a video message to the campus and community, marking his first 30 days in office and outlining a bold vision for the university.

In the video, Dr. Scott shares heartfelt reflections from his ongoing “100-Day Listening, Learning, and Leading” journey, a commitment he made upon assuming the presidency as the 11th leader of Albany State. His message highlights what he has learned from faculty, staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders during this initial phase.

“What I’ve heard has been clear, consistent, deeply moving, and encouraging,” said Dr. Scott. “There is pride, but also pessimism. There is a sense of family, but also a lack of trust. There are aspirations for growth, but also a fear of change. And yet, I am more confident than ever in ASU’s potential.”

Dr. Scott emphasized the importance of intentionality, collaboration, and community in building a stronger Albany State. He introduced three guiding themes that emerged during his first month: the need for More, the pursuit of Better, and the call to Lead.

To move the institution forward, Dr. Scott announced the formation of six Presidential Learning Task Forces, each charged with identifying challenges, generating solutions, and laying the groundwork for ASU’s next chapter. These task forces will focus on:

  1. Recruitment, Student Success, and Service Excellence

  2. Institutional Trust, Culture, and Community Perceptions

  3. Academic Innovation & Institutional Reputation, Faculty and Staff Engagement

  4. Strategic Resourcing & Organizational Capacity

  5. Fundraising, Alumni Engagement, and University Branding

  6. Process, Policy, and Operational Consistency

“These groups are designed not only to generate insight but also to foster collaboration, surface bold ideas, and build shared understanding,” said Dr. Scott. “This moment is ours to claim—not because we have all the answers, but because we are willing to learn, lead, and grow.”

As the university enters the next 70 days of this presidential journey, Dr. Scott calls on the ASU family to embrace change, commit to progress, and work together to build a stronger, bolder, and more impactful Albany State.

“Together, we will make ASU not just a great university, but a leading university for our system and the nation,” he concluded. “Let’s go, Rams—and let’s get to work.”
