The Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission (ADEDC), along with industry partners and local community members, has spearheaded a remarkable relief initiative to support those affected by Hurricane Helene. The initiative began just one week ago as a call to action for businesses and individuals alike to come together to help our neighbors impacted by the hurricane, and the response has been overwhelming.

Local industry leaders, including Mars Wrigley, Tara Foods, Georgia Pacific, CE Family, AMADAS Industries, Pippin Pecans, Albany Technical College, the students and staff of 4C-Academy and the employees of Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Global Commerce Team, stepped up quickly to provide essential post-storm supplies. Donations also poured in from generous community members, showcasing the incredible spirit of giving that defines Albany and Dougherty County. Additionally, Molson Coors coordinated with GEMA for statewide relief efforts.

The initiative focused on delivering critical supplies to areas hardest hit by the storm. ADEDC coordinated with Michael Smith, CEO of Greater Valdosta United Way, and Janna Luke at Second Harvest of South Georgia, Inc., ensuring the distribution of a semi truck loaded with relief items were sent to Valdosta for distribution across southeast Georgia. In partnership with House Representative Jacklyn Ford, another truckload of supplies was successfully delivered to Alapaha, Georgia, an area that had not yet received any aid. A second semi truck load of relief supplies is also being delivered to the Douglas Hazlehurst region, thanks to the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

The kindness and generosity displayed by our community will have a lasting impact on those recovering from Hurricane Helene.”
