Dougherty County Board of Commissioners Announces Appointment of Deron King as New County Administrator

The Dougherty County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce that Deron King has accepted the offer to become the next County Administrator of Dougherty County, Georgia. The decision came after a 4-2 vote, with one abstention, during the Board’s Regular Meeting.

Mr. King brings over 17 years of distinguished local government experience to the role. Most recently, he served as City Manager for East Point, Georgia. Renowned for his background in urban planning, his leadership was instrumental in establishing the Office of Equity, Inclusion & Empowerment, a department dedicated to addressing homelessness and providing housing and utility payment assistance to residents in need.

King’s extensive public service career also includes serving as City Manager for Waycross, Forsyth, and Stone Mountain, Georgia, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to leadership in local government across diverse communities. His professional accomplishments are underscored by his status as a Credentialed Manager by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), a recognition reserved for experienced local government executives.

King holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Iowa and a Master’s in Public Administration from Clark Atlanta University. King is expected to assume his new role September 16, 2024.
