Southwest Georgia Regional Airport Named as One of America’s ‘Most Reliable’ Airports

  • Bert Mooney Airport, MT has been named America’s most reliable airport, with only 8.8% of flights being delayed, canceled, or diverted.   

  • La Crosse Regional Airport, WI is the second most reliable (9.3%) while Helena Regional Airport is third (9.7%). 

  • Stockton Metropolitan Airport was found to be the least reliable airport, with 44.6% of flights experiencing issues.  

A new study has revealed America’s most reliable airports, with Bert Mooney Airport in Montana coming out top.   

Private jet charter service Jettly, examined the total number of delays, cancelations, and diversions for more than 390 American airports, using data provided by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. 

Using flight data from January to August 2023, they calculated the percentage of flights that experienced issues compared to all flights arriving at and departing from each airport. 

Airports with fewer than 500 total arrivals and departures during this timeframe were excluded from the final ranking to ensure a fairer comparison with busier airports.  

1. Bert Mooney Airport, MT, 8,8%  

The most reliable airport in America was found to be Bert Mooney Airport in Montana, with 8.8% of flights experiencing issues. 

The airport, which is located southeast of Butte, had just 79 out of 899 total flight operations that were either delayed, canceled, or diverted during the selected time period. Out of 450 arrivals, 39 flights were delayed, five flights were canceled and nine flights were diverted. Of 449 departures, only 18 flights were delayed and eight were canceled. 

2. La Crosse Regional Airport, WI, 9.3% 

The second most reliable airport in America was found to be La Crosse Regional Airport in Wisconsin, with 9.3% of all flights experiencing issues – or 69 out of 743 total flights. 

The airport had 371 arrival flights between January and August 2023; 31 of which were delayed, six of which were canceled, and none of which were diverted. Out of 372 departures, 26 flights were delayed, and six flights were canceled.  

3. Helena Regional Airport, MT, 9.7% 

The third most reliable airport in America is Helena Regional Airport in Montana, with 9.7% of flights experiencing issues. 

Only 179 out of 1,854 total flights were either delayed, canceled, or diverted between January and August 2023 at Helena Regional Airport. Out of 927 arrivals, 90 flights were delayed, eight were canceled, and two were diverted. Out of 927 departures, 70 flights were delayed, and nine flights were canceled.  

4. Range Regional Airport, MN, 10.1% 

Fourth on the list is Range Regional Airport in Minnesota, with 10.1% of flights experiencing issues – or 100 out of 991 flights being delayed, canceled, or diverted.  

Out of 495 arrivals throughout 2023, 38 of these flights were delayed, eight flights were canceled, and one flight was diverted. Of 496 departures, 45 flights were delayed, and eight were canceled. 

5. Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport, WI, 10.3% 

Fifth on the list is Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport in Wisconsin, with 10.3% of flights (100 out of 971) experiencing issues. 

There were a total of 486 arrivals throughout 2023, 44 of which were delayed, eight of which were canceled, and one was diverted. Of 485 departures, 38 flights were delayed, and nine were canceled.  

6. Cedar City Regional Airport, UT, 11.1% 

Cedar City Regional Airport ranks as the sixth most reliable airport with 11.1% of flight operations experiencing issues. Out of 828 total inbound and outbound flights, 92 were found to be either delayed, canceled, or diverted. 

Out of 414 arrivals, 48 flights were delayed, four were canceled, and three were diverted. Out of 414 departures, 33 flights were delayed, and four flights were canceled.  

7. Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport, MI, 11.3% 

Seventh on the list is Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan, with 11.3% of all flights encountering issues, or 122 out of 1,079 flights. 

There were a total of 539 arrivals throughout 2023, 60 of which were delayed, six of which were canceled, and one was diverted. Out of 540 departures, 49 flights were delayed, and six flights were canceled. 

8. Southwest Georgia Regional Airport, GA, 11.6% 

Eighth on the list is Southwest Georgia Regional Airport, with 11.6% of all flights experiencing delays, cancellations, or diversions (132 out of 1,140). 

Southwest Georgia Regional saw a total of 570 flight arrivals, 62 of which were delayed, two of which were canceled, and five of which were diverted. Out of 570 departures, there were 61 delays and two flights canceled.  

9. Falls International/Einarson Field, MN, 11.7% 

In ninth place is Falls International/Einarson Field in Minnesota, with 11.7% of flights (97 out of 830) experiencing issues. 

There were a total of 415 arrivals throughout January to August 2023, 43 of which were delayed, five of which were canceled, and two of which were diverted. Out of 415 departures, 42 flights were delayed, and five flights were canceled. 

10. Deadhorse Airport, AK, 11.7% 

Rounding out America’s ten most reliable airports is Deadhorse Airport in Alaska, with 11.7% of flights (65 out of 556) experiencing issues. 

The airport in Alaska saw 278 total arrivals, of which 30 were delayed, six of which were canceled, and one of which was diverted. Out of 278 departures, there were 22 delays and six canceled flights.
