Raphael Warnock, D-Atlanta, visited Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Dec. 8, as part of an effort to learn more about military housing currently available to service members in Georgia.
“There are roughly 4,000 active-duty service members, civilian Marines and contractors at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany who make it possible every day for the base to achieve its mission,” Col. Matthew McKinney, commanding officer, MCLB Albany, said. “From supporting Marine Corps Logistics Command to our energy efficiency milestones, none of it is possible without a dedicated workforce. A dedicated and healthy workforce is achieved with robust quality of life resources, and we welcome legislators like Sen. Warnock taking an interest. We hope his visit will be a fruitful one.”
The visit began with a meet-and-greet and working lunch including leadership from MCLB Albany and MARCORLOGCOM, and Warnock with members of his staff. Warnock received command overviews for the base and its primary tenant.
“Our service members represent the best of us. Every day they make sacrifices to protect our freedoms and liberties that can be easily taken for granted. That is why it was important for me to be here at MCLB Albany to hear from folks about the challenges and opportunities facing our military communities, and what they need from their elected officials,” Warnock said. “MCLB Albany is a critical military installation for our state and I applaud those on the ground who make its work possible. As a senator for all Georgians and proud son of a veteran, I will always have the backs of our state’s service members and military families.”
Warnock was given tours of the family housing and barracks accommodations at the installation. He also visited the base’s Commissary toward the conclusion of the visit.
