Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) announced that the Federal Transit Administration has awarded the City of Albany $4.25 million in competitive grant funding through the agency’s Bus & Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program. This grant award will fund six new buses and help support the construction of the new Albany Transit Center.
 
“I am pleased that the Federal Transit Administration has recognized the importance and value of investing in a modern public transportation system for the people of Albany, GA and the surrounding area,” said Congressman Bishop. “These funds will go a long way toward affordably connecting residents to jobs, stores, places of worship, and all that Albany has to offer, while enhancing public safety and convenience in the process.”
 
The Federal Transit Administration, housed under the U.S. Department of Transportation, is the primary agency supporting state and local public transit systems, including buses, subways, and light and commuter rail. The Bus & Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program provides federal resources to states and localities to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses and related equipment.
 
This set of competitively chosen awards included 107 projects in 50 states and territories and totaled $366.2 million in grant funding.
