LaKisha Bryant Bruce Named DCSS Director of Community Relations

The Dougherty County Board of Education has voted to name LaKisha Bryant Bruce as the district’s Director of Community Relations. Bruce will assume the position effective September 1st.
“By bringing LaKisha on board in this position, we hope to continue to cultivate a spirit of pride in the DCSS as well develop a new community engagement initiative through a new 501c3 that will enhance the organization as we position for the future”, said Kenneth Dyer, DCSS Superintendent.
“Having LaKisha as Director of Community Relations is great for us because she is a product of this school system, this community and she is passionate about the people in this community; especially our youth. She understands the importance of strategic partnerships between the DCSS, faculty and staff, and the business community,” Dyer said.
Bruce comes to the DCSS after having served as the president/CEO of the United Way of Southwest Georgia where she has served since 2012. Prior to that, she served as executive director of Girls, Inc., and was director of Communications and Downtown Manager for Albany Tomorrow, Inc.
“I’m excited about this new opportunity to continue to serve my community and help make a difference in the lives of our youth”, said LaKisha Bryant Bruce. “I am also eager to help develop a new community engagement initiative and the 501c3 that will support the system with various programs.”
Bruce’s areas of expertise range from public relations to project management, from non-profit administration to fund development, and from cause marketing to event planning. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Communications (Advertising/Public Relations emphasis) from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Claflin College in Orangeburg, SC.
She brings over 22 years of professional experience to her current position; 15 in the non-profit sector.
