Lt. Governor Casey Cagle joined AT&T Georgia President Bill Leahy at Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy to take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony and check presentation.
“Commodore Conyers exemplifies how College and Career Academies function as the center of the community,” said Lt. Governor Cagle. “They are using their resources to address the specific educational needs of Southwest Georgia – these new developments show their commitment to their students now and in the future. I want to thank AT&T for recognizing the value in these kinds of investments and being a great example of what it truly means to be partners in education.”
"Programs like 4C’s AmeriCorps and Teaching as a Profession are a testament to the strong commitment to education from Georgia's elected leaders like Lt. Governor Cagle, and they effectively prepare Georgia's students for success in today's careers that require continually evolving skill sets,” said Bill Leahy, president of AT&T Georgia. “AT&T is proud to support Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy, and the efforts being made to help students find success in the classroom and build strong foundations for their futures."
AT&T’s $10,000 donation will help develop 4C’s AmeriCorps program, an initiative designed to improve math skills of 4th – 8th grade students through tutoring programs while providing the academy students in the Teaching as a Profession pathway with valuable teaching experience. Once secured, the AmeriCorps Grant will allow 4C to tap into evidence-based practices for improving math proficiency while paving the way to college for the students in the Teaching as a Profession pathway.
4C received its Georgia College and Career Academy Project $3.4 construction grant from the Technical College System of Georgia in 2016. 4C is a partnership between local business and industry, the Dougherty County School System, Albany Technical College and Albany State University.
