Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard will host a public forum on Tuesday June 6, highlighting the Commodore
Conyers College and Career Academy (4C Academy) and its role in workforce development in Southwest Georgia.

The College and Career Academy is a workforce development collaboration between Albany Technical College, the Dougherty County School System, Albany State University and the private business sector.

The institution will allow high school students to attend half days at their zoned high schools, and the other half at the academy studying market-relevant material in one of 14 career pathway clusters based off Georgia Governor Nathan Deal’s High-Demand Career Initiative, which identifies fields with a growing demand in workforce.

“The 4C Academy is a significant step forward for education and workforce development in Albany,” says Mayor Hubbard. “This program allows students to pursue training in high-demand career tracks before they are even finished with high school, and at no cost to them or their parents. This gives them the ability to start their career training earlier with the option to continue their education at a college or university, or go straight into the workforce with the necessary skills.”

The academy will open its doors to up to 450 students in August 2017, offering courses in the areas of engineering, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, information technology, construction, education, film, graphic design, entrepreneurship, marketing and aviation.

The forum will include presentations and commentary by 4C Academy CEO Chris Hatcher, Albany Technical College President Anthony Parker and Dougherty County School System Superintendent Butch Mosely.

The program is an edition in a series of forums organized by the Mayor’s Coalition for Economic Development designed to increase public knowledge on matters relating to economic development.

The June 6 forum is free to the public and will be held from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Government Center, located at 222 Pine Ave. in downtown Albany. A reception catered by the culinary arts students from Turner Job Corps will be held in the downstairs lobby, immediately following the forum.
