Construction Begins on New Ambulatory Surgical Center in Albany

Albany will soon be home to a new ambulatory surgical center located on a 2.4-acre site on Westover Blvd. Albany Surgical, P.C., a six-physician general surgery practice, broke ground Monday on a new 25,000 square foot office and surgical facility, which is expected to be complete in 11 months.
"As far as we know this will be the only general-surgery ambulatory surgical center in South Georgia," said Dr. J. Price Corr, Jr., one of the founding partners of Albany Surgical, P.C.
"We're very excited and we hope our community is excited too. Our goal is to provide safe, comfortable and convenient surgical care to patients right here in Albany."
The new facility will contain a state-licensed surgical suite with two full-service operating rooms and recovery areas, along with expanded clinical practice space. According to Corr, the ambulatory surgical center can provide a lower-cost alternative for outpatient surgery.
"I know there are patients who go outside of Albany for a colonoscopy, for example, because health care costs are so high here. Fees for services at ambulatory surgical centers are lower than fees for the same service at hospitals so our patients will benefit," Corr said.
"I'm an Albany boy born at Phoebe Putney and I came back to Albany 32 years ago to practice medicine. My partners and I want to give back to our home. We want to attract businesses to come here."
Established in 1954, Albany Surgical is the largest general surgery practice in Albany, and one of the oldest practices in South Georgia. It specializes in minimally invasive surgery, including vein treatment procedures, surgical treatment of reflux, LapBand surgery, and all general surgery procedures.
