Most business owners and managers realize that an attractive storefront or office entrance sends an important message to current and prospective customers.  According to David Blackwell, owner of With Perfection Landscape Management, that message actually starts at ground level.

"Our clientele realizes that curb appeal matters.  Many of our large property management customers are spending money now on upgrades.  I think it's remarkable in this economy and a sign that confidence is getting restored," Blackwell said.

With Perfection Landscape Management serves mostly commercial clients including apartment complexes, banks, restaurants and other high-end properties, as well as a few high-end private homes.  The firms has 15 full-time employees and several part-timers in the peak summer months.  

"Professional People, Professional Results" is With Perfection's slogan and it is reflected in employee uniforms and the condition of the company's fleet of trucks and equipment.  Blackwell opened With Perfection in Albany more than15 years ago.

Steady Growth in 2012

Despite the uncertain economy, revenues were up in 2012 for With Perfection.  According to Blackwell, many apartment complex managers and other commercial clients decided to spend money on landscape improvements beginning in third and fourth quarter of last year.

"We had clients asking for new irrigation, plantings and mulch," Blackwell said.

Blackwell believes the overall Albany-area market for landscape management grew in 2012.  However, the market is still not fully back to its pre-recession growth rate.  

"We continue to cultivate long-term relationships with managers in and around Albany.  That leads to new opportunities as people change jobs," Blackwell said. 

Now is the Time

According to Blackwell, March is the opportune time for business owners and managers to re-evaluate landscaping.

"It's a good time to do a front-to-back inspection.  Check to make sure your irrigation system is working properly and think about whether you need to freshen up mulch or add seasonal color," Blackwell said.
